There are plenty of other reasons that people like FCP and ways that it makes life easy. Eventually, if AVCHD becomes popular enough with the FCP user base (squeaky wheel gets the grease) I’m sure it will be included in future releases. If you had researched FCP, you would have found out that it doesn’t deal directly with AVCHD, but requires transcoding. There are some advanced settings like modifying frames and quality/size of the video. Then just choose an output file and click Start. Open a video file, DVD, or whole folder to convert.

IMO, it’s kind of silly to judge an editing system solely on whether or not it can process a particular codec. FFCoder is a free video converter with a simple design that makes it easy for anyone to use.
